EFI - GPT - MBR: Partition Type Codes, Boot Flags, & GUIDs
Due to the amount of confusion out on the interwebs, I decided to add a bit of context to the discussion of EFI partitions, boot flags, and GPT disk layouts. Hopefully, this will help clear up some misconceptions and provide some useful information about partitioning. Specifically, EFI system partitions and how the GPT specifications are implemented by different partitioning tools like gdisk and Gparted.
