Is IVF painful? I don’t think so. The pain of IVF is more mental than physical. IVF is basically taking injections and these injections are like insulin injections. We see a lot of diabetics in our family, our elders who are taking insulin injections everyday and for IVF, we are going to take injections only for 10 to 12 days. So basically in terms of injection I don’t think it is a painful procedure and in terms of egg pickup, it is not painful because we do it under anesthesia and we do it under anesthesia and patient is unconscious and it is hardly a 5 minutes procedure. Post procedure there might be a little bit of abdominal cramps and that is all. The next thing is an embryo transfer and it is an absolutely painless procedure and it does not require an anesthesia. So what is the pain of IVF? It is basically the waiting time, the waiting in an IVF clinic or the waiting in a infertility clinic, waiting for your scans, your tests, waiting for appointments and waiting to know whether your IVF is successful or not. The important thing in IVF and what matters to you is the pain, whether your IVF is going to be successful and are you going to get pregnant in the first atleast so this is the one that cause a lot of tension in you. We get a success rate of about 60 to 65%. So basically from where does this success come? It comes from the egg quality and your husband’s sperm quality when we do an IVF, the procedure wise injection wise, technique wise, ICSI wise it is the same lab, the same clinician, but why is it that we get a success rate of 60 to 65%? Why not 100%? What is the difference ? The difference is your own egg and sperm, your body, the way your body reacts, it is different. So if an IVF doesn’t get successful in the first time, it is not that I will not happen. It is not the end of the world. There are so many couples who have conceived in the first time, who have not conceived in the first, who have conceived in the second time or the third time.
