Hormonal therapy is very important form of treatment in breast cancer. Usually not all the breast cancers will be sensitive for hormonal modality for treatment. Patients who are ER PR positive are only going to be sensitive for the hormonal therapy. Breast cancer patients who are ER PR positive will have better prognosis than other tumors. They tend to be little bit slower growing and not aggressive tumor. So if a patient is ER PR positive then we will start the patient on hormonal therapy. There are various drugs available for the hormonal therapy. Hormonal therapy can be used as a curative use after chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. It is used for many years usually 5 to 10 years. Hormonal therapy not only controls cancer recurrence but also controls new cancer development. So that is why hormonal therapy plays very important role. Another very important thing is when you are on a hormonal therapy for breast cancer, you should see doctor once in three months because hormonal therapy do have some side effects. Hormonal therapy will have some effect on the uterus. They have to go for a gynecological checkup once every year. Some tablets may have effects on the bones and muscles. For all those things, you have to see the doctor once in 3-6 months. Hormonal therapy is a very important modality in the treatment of breast cancer with maximal benefits and minimal side effects.
