Internationally renowned, the Terra Nostra Botanical Park is over two hundred years old. Started in 1780 by the US Consul on São Miguel Island, Thomas Hickling built his summer home here, known as Yankee Hall. Weaving through 12.5 hectares (31 acres) of gardens, grottoes, lush avenues, serpentine trails, streams and ponds, you can find Rhododendrons from Malaysia, or the unique Victoria Regia. Discover collections of more than 600 varieties of Camellias, Cycads, and over 220 varieties of Ferns.
The Botanical Park's next Highlight is the famous Thermal Spa. The volcanic thermal spring nourishes the spa with temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius (95º and 104º F), creating such calm and relaxation you can only find in rare corners of the World.
Perfectly nestled in this magic scenery is Terra Nostra Garden Hotel, with its restaurant, where you can sample the most typical meal in the Azores Islands, the famous "Cozido das Furnas", completely made inside the Furnas volcanic hot springs.
