I guess I kind of committed to posting updates, so here you go:)
Since my last progress video (9 months ago) I barely practiced, all my spare time went into practicing drums and personal carrier projects (I'm a programmer by the way). Thus I haven't renewed my subscription yet.
If I ignore the obvious mistakes here (thumb moving and recording anxiety are a b*tch to get rid of) I'm still surprised how robust this technique is. The past few days I went back to basic practicing (rather than weekend random fiddling) and the results are magical. I had cleaner runs occasionally but this video is true to life so I prefer to post it.
Also trying to figure out how to capture the amp room sound. Maybe I should invest in some ribbon mic, Royer R121 or Beyerdynamic M160. I can't EQ an SM57 into something I like, like Gilbert or Buckethead tone. The dry tone you hear consists of:
Guitar:
- Ibanez RG2550Z Prestige
Pedals:
- Decimator II G String Noise Suppressor
- AC Booster Comp
Amp:
- Blackstar HT5
Mics:
- Shure SM57 (mostly)
- Rode NT1 (a bit of room reverb and picking sound)
Interface:
- Scarlet 2i4
Recorded via OBS using Logitech C920 and Canon 80D (they finally have a 720p webcam driver).
