NACHC hosted an in-depth discussion about the evidence, spread of the virus and challenges in the response to the 2022 U.S. monkeypox virus (MPV) outbreak with a focus on best practices for testing, treatment, and vaccination in community health centers.
While the current trajectory of the outbreak is improving, community health centers are key in the public health response, identifying, treating and preventing new cases in their at-risk communities. The White House National Monkeypox Coordinator, Robert Fenton, and Deputy Coordinator, Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, presented on the U.S. response to the outbreak and the national engagement approach. Front-line community health center leaders, Anthony Fortenberry and Kevin Ard, will describe how health centers have expanded their work in sexual health and the LGBTQ and high-risk communities to respond to MPV.
The session concluded with an extended “Ask the Experts” panel featuring the speakers and experts from the Infectious Disease Society of America, additional health centers and HRSA responding to questions from the field on the MPV response.
