This clip is from a match between Oliver Taza and Mikey Gonzalez at EBI 19. Passing half guard relies on establishing an upper body pin; this not only gives you access to a variety of passes but also massively shuts down the half guard players' offence. Ultising tripods create an effective base to both apply and absorb pressure, which make them effective tools when passing.
From the back step, Taza ensures to accomplish two things a secure wedge around the leg he is attacking and control over the secondary leg to inhibit its role in defence for the opponent.
I will have more posts up covering EBI 19 later this week.
