TAGALONG BUSKER EXTRA- What is this episode about?
This time I've visited the International Busking Day festival in Wembley Park on Saturday, July the 20th, 2019.
It is described as the World's largest celebration of Street Performers and artists, organised by Busk in London, and supported by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
There were five stages, from the Main Stage on Olympic Way to performances inside Boxpark Wembley. Artists for this year’s International Busking Day included UK chart-topping indie rock band, Noisettes, and the very special headliner, Brit Award winner and Grammy/Mercury Award nominee, KT Tunstall.
There were also over fifty other acts, including singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hattie Briggs; folk pop singer-songwriter Lucy May Walker; singer-songwriter Sherika Sherard; multi award-winning‚ indie pop & rock artist Natalie Shay; musician and singer-songwriter Josh Greaves; singer-songwriter Robbie Boyd; and performer Bethzienna Williams, finalist on this year’s The Voice.
I've met some great performers and spoke to them about their careers and life as a busker. In this episode I talk to Hattie Briggs, she told me for how long she was busking before she actually 'made it' to the stage, what is her background, and she also gave some advice for the upcoming buskers- so if you think of starting busking, have a look and get inspired!
Tell me some more about the project, Aga....
OK! In everyday life, usually we spend a few seconds, up to few minutes on listening to a street performer. We often don't know where did they come from, whether they live here or came just for a few days.. How often they perform and what are their dreams..? I want to find out about this!!
And who are you, the Tagalong Busker?
I am a Polish violinist, singer and songwriter, living in London (links below). I am not a regular busker myself- I make music as a solo artist, and, as I often work on my own, this project is a way of meeting other musicians, a very inspiring experience and form of a musical challenge. I always liked joining street musicians, and admired their ability to play in difficult weather conditions, or performing on busy streets for a long time! In the Tagalong Busker episodes I am joining the them for improvised performances, also trying to find out a bit more about the life of a street musician..
It's always a surprise who will I meet out there, and what will be the musical outcome.. All is freshly delivered from the lively Streets of London!
