(28 Sep 1950) Once again tragedy overtakes the coalfields. At Creswell Colliery, near Worksop, fire mysteriously broke out a thousand feet below the surface when 180 men were at work. In spite of valiant efforts by rescue teams, eighty miners were still trapped behind the wall of flame.
