Colonna di Sant'Andrea
piazza Villani

According to tradition, in 1600, Francesco Bartilotti, prince of Castellaneta, after his marriage to D. Maria Cyto Moles, baroness of Salve, moved to Presicce with his wife and his eldest son Andrea, taking up residence in the castle, where the old baron Filippo Antonio Cyto still lived. A few years later, at the age of four, little Andrea died, an event that led Prince Bartilotti to erect a votive column for St. Andrew the Apostle in memory of his dead son.
It consists of a base decorated with friezes and masks, surmounted by a finely sculpted balustrade and embellished in the corners with four embossed putti and four female figures (three of which are headless) representing the four Cardinal Virtues. The southward side bears the Bartilotti heraldic coat of arms, while the northward side bears another coat of arms of difficult interpretation, as it is strongly corroded. The eastward and westward sides both carry a scroll barely readable.
On the base rests the tall barrel surmounted by a Corinthian capital, which in turn, bears the statue of the saint.
