For those of you interested in pursuing OT or in an OT program right now, I thought a reflection and advice video on fieldwork would be helpful.

I had a level 1 fieldwork in pediatrics, adult rehab, and mental health (took place one at a time during each semester that covered an immersion) and two level 2 fieldworks in pediatrics and adult rehab (both took place in the summer for 3 months each). Depending on your program, you may have some input in placement, especially if you are interested in seeing a specific setting such as hands. Be proactive and ask your program director to get in touch with fieldwork advisors to get a better understanding of what you can do or expect during your program. For level 1, we basically had a fieldwork in each setting regardless of interest. For level 2, we were allowed to indicate if we had preference and they took it into consideration. In some special cases, if you are interested in traveling for your fieldwork level 2s and your school offers this, you can end up in different states! That's how I ended up at a VA hospital out of state. This was so much fun and VAs pay you a stipend to attend fieldwork so I was able to put that towards housing. Some places do offer financial stipends so look around and talk to your fieldwork coordinators!
