Ever wondered how executive function affects your ADHD?
Let’s break it down: Executive function is like the fuel that powers our decision-making, organizing, planning, and overall functioning.
The more you use this fuel, the less you have left.
Think about it this way: neurotypical folks start their day with a full tank of 10 gallons, while those of us with ADHD might only start with 2 gallons.
By noon, our fuel might be running on empty, leading to brain fog and exhaustion.
When you’re feeling drained and someone else says they’re tired too, it’s important to recognize that you might be at a different fuel level.
They may be down to 5 gallons, while you’re on empty.
You’re not experiencing the same level of fatigue, even though it might feel like you’re in the same boat.
Understanding this difference can help in communicating better and fostering empathy.
How do you let your loved ones know that you are running low on executive function?
