This is my second year participating in the RBC Gran Fondo to Whistler. This is a 122km ride through some of the most beautiful scenery in BC along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. The fun starts at Stanley Park, then you ride over the famous Lions Gate Bridge, using two dedicated lanes. From there you head along the Hwy. 99 towards Lions Bay and other small coastal towns. Along the way you have options to stop at least five rest stops.
You will pass some of the most beautiful features in BC, including The Shannon Falls, Stawamus Chief Mountain in Squamish, Diamond Head, Brandywine Falls and more before ending your trip in Whistler. It is truly a breath taking bike ride, and will create a memory that will forever stay with you. The next time you drive along this road, you will see yourself riding along the path on your bike.
The event starts at approximately 7am and this years total rider numbers were at 5000. Riders from all over the world and of varying age and skills ride their bike at the desired speed to Whistler. The fastest time this year was 3:29hr, mine was much, much higher but I did shave off two hours from last year's time. Of course riding a Mountain Bike to Whistler was definitely crazy and much harder. Several planning mistakes were made on my part that cost me at least 20-30min. Will try to do better next year. Until then...
