In the physical aspect of yoga, in the Ashtanga method, we meet the first back bend, aside from upward facing dog called in Sanskrit Purvottanasana. This upward plank pose, also known as the “Intense East Stretch”, helps improve the functioning of the thymus, a lymphoid organ located behind the breastbone, which helps in maintaining the immune system. The thymus glad, more specifically, helps the body fight foreign invaders.
