Chinese and Philippines vessels collided on August 19 during a confrontation near a disputed shoal in the South China Sea. The two countries accused each other of ramming vessels and performing ‘dangerous manoeuvres’ near the Sabina Shoal. In a statement, Chinese Coast Guard said a Philippine vessel which had ignored repeated warnings “deliberately collided” with its ship. According to China, the Filipino vessel collided in an "unprofessional and dangerous" manner in the disputed waters. Meanwhile, China has vowed to to maintain "forceful measures" in the South China Sea to “safeguard its territorial sovereignty.”
