Double Bass Etude: Rabbath 19 Hommange to Paganini. 21 Day Etude Practice Challenge(20/21)
I have an important audition coming in the next few months, but I don't yet have the Repertoire list. I'm anticipating it coming out Feb. 1. Until then to make sure that I'm keeping my chops up I set myself the challenge of recording and uploading an etude every single day until Feb. 1 with a short explanation at the end of each. Many of these etudes I have played before, but it's been awhile, but there will also be a few new ones.
As I said probably the most boring to listen to, but definitley the most important pedagogically. When I first started practicing from this book it was life changing. Essentially Hal Robinson took the 100 pages of scales in book 3 from rabbath and condensed it down to 24 pages. When practing this book start with the easier keys, keys that allow you the use of harmonics as tuning anchors makes this much more manageable especially in the 6th position. Once you are comforatable with the idea move towards the keys that have less harmonics. For the arpeggios, the fingerings are fine and its a good progression, honestly for that I prefer the Eugene Levinson school of Agility arpeggios but either one is good. Thank you for wathcing! Especially if you watched all 21 of these. It was a lot more challenging to keep up the pace then I anticipated but I appreciate your support and comments. Hopefully you got something out of the explanations I gave. Thanks again! and Happy Boardwalkin'.
