The USFL sued the NFL for violating antitrust laws, claiming that the NFL had a monopoly on professional football and unfairly prevented the USFL from securing a fall network contract. Most of the USFL's accusations were dismissed due to lack of evidence, but the court found that the NFL had engaged in monopolization and harmed the USFL. The relevant sub-market and intent of the NFL were also important factors in the case.
