Women survivors of the 1994 Rwanda genocide describe their experiences and how, with the help of ActionAid, they have formed a cooperative.
The cooperative brings together women widowed by the genocide, as well as women whose husbands are in prison for genocide-related crimes, in order to promote reconciliation and development.
ActionAid helps them by providing financial support and training. It support women to develop initiatives like chicken farming, maize harvesting or vegetable growing so they can provide for their children.
Many women lost the entitlement to their homes and land when their husbands died. ActionAid empowers women by providing advice on how they can claim their rights.
