Sarah Angelina Chavez was born on December 5th, 2002 in California to her mother Sophia Chavez. When Sarah was born she was found to have Vicodin in her system. A case worker opened up a file on Sarah when she was two days but never followed up on the case.
January 1st, 2005
Sophia was taking narcotic while she was pregnant with her another child. Sophia called the 9-1-1 saying she had a miscarriage at her home. When paramedics reached her home they found her stillborn baby in the toilet.
Fearing for Sarah social workers tracked her down and found she was with a great-aunt, Frances Abundis. When they arrived at the home they found Sarah with two black eyes and a cut on her nose.
Sophia was considered an unfit parent. The social worker feared for Sarah so they had her removed from Frances and placed in protective custody.
Sarah was placed with two women, Dianne Hardy-Garcia and her partner, Corri Planck after they were checked and went through different procedures.
"She had chocolate all over her face, and she had a candy cane in her mouth, and I brought her a little teddy bear and she jumped in my arms,"

While at her new home Sarah had toys, books and her own room. She loved to watch Mary Poppins.
Sarah also had a little pet schnauzer, who would sleep outside Sarah's door.
Sarah went to West Hollywood day care center and her foster parents would hang her foster parents would proudly hang her art work up for display in their home.
"You could tell that Sarah had been exposed to explosive violence," Dianne
Sarah knew how to choke with both hands. She also had terrible nightmares. Sarah also knew how to curse. There were also signs that Sarah had been sexually abused in her previous home.
February 11th,2005
Dianne asked the social worker to arrange medical exams to see if Sarah was abused. No one listened.
Sarah would be taken for court-ordered, weekly family visits with her mother, who was often late or didn't show. But her great-aunt and godmother, Frances Abundis, was always there.
Sarah's fosters mothers didn't know that at children's court Sarah's family was battling to get her back. Sophie was angry that Sarah was living with a gay couple. Sophie was deemed unfit because of her drug problem so Frances continued fighting.
Sarah's appointed lawyer her only voice never visited her in person, nor did she call to consult with foster parents Dianne and Corri. Frances and her husband Armando was appointed Sarah's guardians despite Sarah having black eyes when she was last in their care. Before a proper check of background and home inspections a judge sent Sarah home with them.
April 2005
Dianne and Corri were given one hour to pack Sarah up to leave. Sarah started packing all her things back in her draw. Before she left Sarah said
Sara lived with her great aunt, her husband and their son 5-year-old Armando Jr. Sophia was given unlimited visits with Sarah.
The courts failed to document the fact that Sophia rarely showed up for her visitation.
A social worker saw Sarah happy with her foster mothers and saw Sarah deteriorate while living with the Abundises but did nothing. Frances started selling marijuana while Armando drank beer. Sarah's cousin would watch as Armando took Sarah into their room, and then hear Sarah's screams from behind closed doors.
October 10th, 2005
Sarah was taken to the hospital because by her aunt because Sarah's arm had been brutally fractured above her elbow, where pieces of jagged bone kept it disconnected and hanging limply at her side.
After four hours at the hospital Sarah's aunt left with Sarah even though Sarah also had internal injuries.
October 11th, 2005
Seven hours later Sarah was dead. Sarah died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
Frances and Armando Abundis are in jail awaiting trial for murder, child abuse and related charges of neglect. Frances will also be charged with possession of drugs.
Armando Abundis Sr., of Alhambra was found Guilty on Count 1, (Assaulting Child under 8 resulting in death), Count 2, (Not Guilty on Murder, Guilty on lesser involvement), and Guilty on Count 3 (Child abuse resulting in death) at Pasadena Superior Court.
November 29th
Frances was released from jail after pleading no contest to acting as an accessory after the fact and to felony marijuana possession, she was The agreement included a sentence of 14 months, which Abundis has already served
A total of nine worker failed Sarah. This video is not about rights or to discuss whether or not Gay couples should be allowed to adopt.
It is about the failure to protect by state agencies.
