In this video I enter my garage workshop and begin turning a piece of Bubinga into a Jewellery Box with lid and finial. This is my first attempt a this type of project.
I begin my shaping a finishing the base so that it can't be reversed in the chuck and the lid can be pated off. Once parted the lid is finished to provide a reference for hollowing the vessel so that there is a good friction fit on the lid. Once the vessel is hollowed the lid is fitted so the two outside edges can be trued up to each other before final finishing coat. Finally, I turn a finial out of White Oak to cap the piece.
This project, although my first, turned out really well and was a great learning experience. I intend to give this to my wife to use as a Jewellery box.
