I can never predict how these TeaTalks will turn out, but what I do know is they are always magical storytelling moments, enlightening, moving, honest and passionate. By the end of the workshop strangers and friends alike have shared personal stories, thoughts, ideas and dreams on what matters most to them and their community. We have laughed, grown as people, been inspired and been inspiring and as a result, we always have a good solid foundation and plans to build projects using each other's strengths, skills, passions and assets.
Our latest TeaTalk involves working with The space and a series of Blackpool based artists, musicians, Hare Krishna Community and more to come. At the end of these sessions, we are working towards a series of community development projects that will bring life, love, passion, inspiration, movement, story, and improve our community and its mental health. Throw in some lasers, a bus, a bohemian chill out tent and immersive art experiences and that's just what we came up with in one night. There are several more workshops to go.
The art of storytelling and conversation has been missing from our communities for a while and yet it is the most powerful tool at our disposal to make any kind of change be it personal, community, systems or society. Stories touch our souls not just our heads and as a result, they change us for the better. Sharing stories and exploring conversation is both the heart and soul of psychotherapy. It is the solution to mental health and community wellbeing. Story brings people together, connects individuals, changes perceptions, shares ideas and unburdens pain. We can rewrite our stories once we understand the hidden ones dictating our lives and the life of our communities.
Teatalks and Community Conversations are a series of asset-based community development projects working with Blackpool community groups, artists and community mental health groups at a grassroots local level. We use a creative & therapeutic storywork approach to our work.
