1.0
After a powerless Spider-Man jumps to his death to save Mary Jane, with the city literally burning, Arachne reveals half of the second act to be a dream (joy). Arachne tries to force Parker to be with her forever, while attempting to suffocate Mary Jane in a cacoon, leading to a fight while the two sing another bland, uninspired U2 song. Parker surrenders his life and pledges to leave Earth to be with Arachne in exchange for Mary Jane's life. Arachne kind of feels bad I guess, and lets both of them go, allowing her to go to Heaven, as she was unable to when she killed herself at the beginning of the play. Peter gets his powers back and has an awkward chat with MJ as the play just sort of ends.
Fun fact: Originally an ending where Arachne and Spider-Man would fight on a giant web above the audience's heads, in an attempt to top the fight with Green Goblin at the end of Act I. The web was built for over a million dollars, but wouldn't work, as it got stuck on too many objects. The web appeared on stage but was largely reduced. Critic Michael Riedel bashed the use of the web as a "shower curtain". For technical reasons, the web often didn't drop, and actors had to improve by just talking and pretending that was fighting. Critics hated this ending, and it was barely an ending and just kind of stopped. Taymor agreed, and a new ending was written.

After a powerless Spider-Man jumps to his death to save Mary Jane, with the city literally burning, Arachne reveals half of the second act to be a dream (joy). Arachne tries to force Parker to be with her forever, while attempting to suffocate Mary Jane in a cacoon, leading to a fight, except they don't sing this time. Parker surrenders his life and pledges to leave Earth to be with Arachne in exchange for Mary Jane's life. Arachne kind of feels bad I guess, and lets both of them go, allowing her to go to Heaven, as she was unable to when she killed herself at the beginning of the play. Peter and MJ celebrate, as Parker flies above the head of the audience. They sing an epic reprise of Rise Above as the show concludes.
Fun fact: Controversial conservative talk show host Glen Beck actually helped write this ending. Beck was one of the few defenders of the play, calling it one of the best musical's biggest defenders, calling it one of the greatest musicals ever, and called it better than Wicked. Beck praised the visuals and stunts and loved how the character of the Green Goblin was an environmentalist, thus portraying an environmentalist as the villain. Beck got backstage at a VIP preview. He chated with Bono, and suggested a major reprise of a song. He was brought back later to add more insight.

After saving Mary Jane from the Green Goblin, she puts together that Peter is Spider-Man. The two pledge their lives together and Spider-Man swings around the theater in an epic reprise of Rise Above.
Fun fact: This was apart of the Act I ending of 1.0 where Spider-Man fought the Green Goblin over the audience's heads. The fight was moved to the end of the show to add a more climactic conclusion to the play.
