This lesson starts with trying to sort items into 'living, once living and non-living' whilst going on a walk. Then the lesson progresses into descriptions and definitions of each of the 8 characteristics of life. Finishing with how to cars compare with the 8 characteristics of life, why viruses are not living, and finally an example exam question.
The syllabus covered is:
understand how living organisms share the following characteristics:
• they require nutrition
• they respire
• they excrete their waste
• they respond to their surroundings
• they move
• they control their internal conditions
• they reproduce
• they grow and develop.
