The pics are from a shoot circa 2008... immediately after which the film went missing! It wasn't until around 2020-2021 that Alan unearthed and developed the film--- after it had been LOST for over a decade! I'm psyched to Finally share along with some of my fav music :)

I chose these pics for this song because when they were taken, I was a young adult who had spent years hating herself and everything about her appearance. Depression, anxiety, and an eating disorder blinded me, as did the unrelenting expectations of the patriarchal capitalist culture I grew up in and the self-objectification syndrome it engendered. Looking back, these pics and more broadly the shoot they came from mark an early turning point in my personal development where I began to see myself less as a hot mess human and more as a divine being of love and light. I had finished uni and was stepping into my own as an empowered independent female while still dancing with the ever-present male gaze.

Music has helped me so much in this journey of self-love and acceptance, and I'm sure it has for many of you as well. When I hear this track it reminds me of the electrifying feeling that comes when you begin to truly love yourself and open up to the divine light within, that which can't be doused no matter how hard "they" try. I hope by posting this video Sophie and Charli XCX's beautiful track might become part of other people's journey too :)
