We travel to Java to meet architect and nursery grower Karen Tambayong. Subscribe 🔔 [ Ссылка ]
Karen has always loved nature and as a keen mountain walker, she sees many plants that she would love to grow in her garden, to create the same ambience.
She designed her own garden to make it a treat not only for the eyes but also for the soul.
Her nursery is in West Java in the base of Pangrango and Mount Gede mountains.
At 1200m above sea level, the climate is cool despite being in the tropics.
Her father was also a grower and Karen took over the garden from him, and she started growing tropical plants that weren’t being widely grown.
She says flowers are her passion and when she sees a beautiful flower, she has to learn how to grow it.
Her training in architecture taught her about structure and colour combinations, and she has also studied floral design. For 20 years she did the floral decorations for the presidential palace; her forte is using native Indonesian flowers and foliage.
Her garden is a refuge for her and her family and friends.
Featured plants:
Pink kopsia (Kopsia fruticosa )
Soft vanda (Vanda tricolor)
Showy melastome (Medinilla eximia syn. M. speciosa)
Filmed in Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia
