France is a very old and relatively big country, stretching across multiple regions and cultures. Because of this, French myths and legends are incredibly diverse and over absolutely unique. Others are a variety of tales told in surrounding countries. An example of this is the lost children, which is basically a more creepy Hansel and Gretel.
A more uniquely French legend tells of the Beast of Gevaudan. It tells of a monstrously large wolf that caused mayhem in 17th century France, devouring hundreds of innocents.
