Mount St. Helens had been a picturesque part of the Cascade Range, its snow-capped peak standing proudly amidst dense forests. However, beneath its serene exterior, the volcano was stirring. In March 1980, a series of small earthquakes began to shake the region, a sign that magma was rising beneath the mountain. Scientists and locals grew concerned, but the true scale of the impending disaster was beyond imagination.
