The Gaza Strip’s border with Israel remains quiet on Saturday morning, less than 24 hours after clashes between Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Palestinians rioting along the fence left at least one Palestinian dead and 22 others injured.

The funeral for the 25-year-old, identified by Palestinian Health Ministry as Ihab Atallah Hussain Abed, is expected to be held Saturday with Palestinian media reporting Israeli forces are still on heightened alert in anticipation of the event.

An estimated 10,000 Gazans participated in the protests, which occurred as part of the ongoing 'Great March of Return' demonstrations.

On Friday morning, it appeared as though both Israel and Hamas, the militant group ruling Gaza, were preparing for recent tensions to boil over into a violent escalation.

Hamas on Thursday rejected $15 million in Qatari funds after Israel approved the transfer following over three weeks delay, saying they would not distribute the cash to civil employees after Israel provided so many conditions.

Qatar’s eventually reached an agreement with the UN to provide a new sum of $20 million for humanitarian projects in the impoverished enclave, effectively bypassing the Hamas government.
