Listen I love the Elementalist, and the Catalyst is still my main but we have to talk about this. The Ele hasn't been in a good state for a while and its starting to become severely noticeable. A recent reddit post suggested only about 2% of groups contain an ele in any form. WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THIS.

I've been critical of Arenanet before, and I agree that sometimes its a bit much, but I don't believe I am overstepping by saying that they do not care about the Elementalist. The profession which is an amazing concept just isn't favored by the developers who spend most of their time with other more popular professions such as guardian and necromancer. Prior to the mechanist release Engineer was in a similar boat but now they are top dog. Who knows what the future will bring for the Ele but right now it isn't great...
