Mendelssohn: Spring Song (Op. 62, No. 6)
Victor Concert Orchestra
Rosario Bourdon, conductor
Recorded February 21, 1928, in the Victor Talking Machine Company's Camden Church studio, Camden, N. J., on 78-rpm matrix BVE-42519-1. Issued in August, 1928, as Victor 21449-B, a popular black label 10-inch disc; the record was deleted by 1940. It was coupled with Nevin's "Narcissus", which has been uploaded separately.
The orchestra, according to the ledgers, consisted of 4 first violins, 2 seconds, 2 violas, 2 cellos, bass, flute, oboe, bassoon, 2 clarinets, 2 French horns, 2 cornets, trombone, tuba, piano, harp, and traps, though I can't hear anything in the recording that might be referred to as "traps". The ledgers also indicate that Bruno Reibold conducted rather than Bourdon. Players credited in the ledgers are: Charles Linton (piano), and Francis J. Lapitino (harp). The arranger of the piece, originally for piano solo, is unknown.
