The legendary Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT) makes its annual visit to Cal Performances and Zellerbach Hall March 9-14 to present six different dynamic programs of repertory, including three Bay Area premieres and two SchoolTime performances. Known the world over for its supreme skill, energy and diverse choreographic expression, the AAADT is "a company that clearly believes that dance is a gift to be shared with the audience." Cal Performances' time-honored relationship with the AAADT affords Bay Area audiences more opportunities than anywhere outside of the company's New York home. Now in its 52th year, it continues to thrill audiences with its energetic, compelling performances, earning a reputation as the most acclaimed ambassador of American culture, promoting the uniqueness of black cultural expression and the preservation and enrichment of the American modern dance heritage.
PROGRAM A
AAADT's first repertory program at Cal Performances (Mar 9, Mar 13 mat, and Mar 14) includes Uptown (2009; set to music by Fats Waller, Nat "King" Cole and others; choreography by Matthew Rushing *), Dancing Spirit (2009; set to music by Duke Ellington, Wynton Marsalis, Radiohead, and War; choreography by Ronald K. Brown *), and the masterpiece Revelations (1960; traditional spirituals and gospel music; choreography by Alvin Ailey)
PROGRAM B
Highlighting Program B (Mar 10 & 12) of AAADT are Suite Otis (1971; set to music by Otis Redding, choreography by George Faison), Among Us (Private Spaces: Public Places) (2009; set to music by Eric Lewis, choreography by Robert Battle *), and the masterpiece Revelations (1960; traditional spirituals and gospel music; choreography by Alvin Ailey)
PROGRAM C
Program C (Mar 11 & Mar 13 eve) features Love Stories (2004; set to the music of Stevie Wonder, choreography by Judith Jamison, with Robert Battle and Rennie Harris *), Hymn (1993; music by Robert Ruggieri and libretto by Anna Deavere Smith; choreography by Judith Jamison, restaged by Masazumi Chaya), and the masterpiece Revelations (1960; traditional spirituals and gospel music; choreography by Alvin Ailey).

The AAADT will give two SchoolTime performances for Bay Area students Thursday, March 11, and Fri, March 12, at 11 am in Zellerbach Hall.
