John goes back to his roots in north central Wisconsin, revisiting songs written and inspired by his Midwestern upbringing. From stories of his first teenage gigs to songs about his ancestors, local legends, and friends, this will be a unique look into John’s Wisconsin memories. He’ll also include some of his favorite traditional songs from his home state.

50 YEARS OF TRADITIONAL MUSIC
Sunday, March 6th at 4:00 PM PT
Though John is often thought of as one of the most prolific and powerful songwriters in folk music, his roots are firmly planted in traditional music. As a young 20-year-old he traveled the Appalachians, apprenticing himself to some of the greats of traditional Southern music. This concert will feature an homage to his many mentors, selections from his field recordings housed at the Library of Congress’ Archive of American Folksong, and some very special surprises.

SONGWRITERS IN THE ROUND
Sunday, April 3rd at 4:00 PM PT
John will be joined by four of his favorite songwriters for a round-robin of amazing songs. These writers will talk about the songs, their writing process, and how they bring what’s inside, outside. The names of the featured writers will follow shortly.

INSTRUMENTALISTS IN THE ROUND

John will be joined by four of his favorite instrumentalists for a round-robin of string wizardry, conversation, and fun. The names of the featured players will follow shortly.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Ever wondered where John came up with that song idea? How did he research the many historical songs he’s written? Who did he write that particular song for? What about that line/term/idea I don’t quite understand? Here’s a chance to request, in advance, that John sing and talk about a song you’ve always wanted to hear. Get your requests in early, so John will have time to re-learn and remember your request.
