Gamma Camera is used to visualize the organ. Following Blood flow with Gamma particles in the blood. Stress and Rest Cardiac stress test - then give you E/F, then Cath done with exact location. Less invasive.
ANY ORGAN GROUP. Same Gamma with different pharmaceutical for each organ group. Ultimately Function testing is being done. Less exposure than an X-ray. Radiology looks at anatomy where Nuclear Medicine is anatomy and physiology (function) They can overlay two images which allows the physician to compare and locate damage or disease.
The order of testing is commonly:
Cardiology ultrasound
Nuclear Medicine imaging
NM is a good beginning point but may not be first.
