Set contributory goals.

Life is a participation sport. Mike Ditka once said, "You’re either in the parade or you’re watching the parade."

Rarely do next generation family members have the same skill sets as their parents who built the wealth. Even when they are willing it is difficult for the children to see where they fit.

One family set up an operational board made up of second generation family members to manage their commercial real estate holdings. One was responsible for the accounting, another human resources, another facilities, another legal negotiations, and then another portfolio management.

None had worked in the business before the goals were set all were eager to contribute when they realized how they each could make a difference in building true family wealth.
