How to paint your traditional sketches and line art with digital colours in Photoshop. In this example I created a ballpoint pen / ink illustration in my A5 sketchbook, took a photo on my phone, and edited it in Photoshop as you see in the video. In short, creating a new layer above your photograph / line art, set to the layer mode of 'multiply' is the quickest way to do this, but before that we take a quick look at prepping your art.
The reason I want the page to be as white as possible, is so that when using the multiply layer mode, the colour you apply will be the intended colour, if your page is a little darker then white, it will still work fine, it's just the colours you apply will show up a little darker ( so maybe pick go a little lighter when selecting your colours )
Using the multiply layer mode is definitely the quickest and easiest method to add colour to your traditional art, however it isn't perfect, as it does not allow you to paint on multiple layers as easily, unless you manage to avoid any overlap, as explained in the video. I do have a link ( below ) showing how you can separate your line art to remedy this.
