In this follow-up video I review some theory about the ingenious design of the Stradella Bass system and Circle of Fifths arrangement. As I continue my accordion-learning adventures, I can confirm the old saying that it is the "hardest easy instrument" to play. It is incredibly easy to play basic tunes but can also be very frustrating not being able to see anything you are doing. You are essentially blind and have to play it all by feel by developing "muscle memory"! As well, it requires coordination of not only both hands but also the bellows. Hugging the instrument up against your chest creates an incredibly intimate connection to the music and as you learn to play the accordion it becomes like a natural extension of your body. Even after decades playing the piano, the accordion is a wonderful challenge and it helps you see music and music theory in a totally new light!
