In a world where far too many are sleeping on the streets or couch surfing, we need change. 🌍💔
Despite promises from leaders to end homelessness, the UK government is unlikely to meet their 2024 target of stopping all rough sleeping in England. The cost of living crisis and housing crisis heavily contribute to this issue. 🏘️💰
Understanding the scale of homelessness is crucial. In autumn 2023, 3,898 people were found sleeping on England's streets in just one night, over double the 2010 count. Most are men, over 26, and from the UK. For every one woman, six men are sleeping rough. 👤👥
Between April 2022 and March 2023, over 10,000 people slept rough in London alone. From January to March 2024, 4,118 people were counted-a third more than the previous year. 📈
Tragically, 2,438 families who sought help with homelessness had slept outside in the past three months, and 1,500 families had slept on the streets the night before asking for help. Women often find safer spots to avoid violence, like cafes and train stations, which is why they may not be as visible in counts. 🚶♀️🏪
Homeless groups suggest the actual number of rough sleepers might be nine times higher than official counts. In 41 areas monitored, 816 women were found sleeping rough, starkly contrasting the official figures. ✋📊
Let's raise awareness and work together to address homelessness head-on. 💪❤️
