The New Superman Suit is More Important Than You Think. Last month, James Gunn posted to his Instagram the first look at David Corenswet’s Superman suit and it looks great. The slight collar and chest symbol immediately make me think of the Alex Ross Kingdom Come design – except now in Red and Yellow.
Then earlier this week, we got set photos and it looks even better in full color. Sure, there are plenty of fans of Henry Cavil’s more muted blue take without the red trunks and yellow belt but this new look actually hints at something much more. With this and a glimpse of the back of his cape where we see the gold symbol on it. This tells us that David Corenswet’s Superman is going to be much more based on the comic book source material than previous Supermen. Little goofy red shorts, gold cape symbol and all.
It's kind of remarkable that even though the gold symbol is a mainstay in the comics, it actually hasn’t been used since Christopher Reeves donned the mantle back in 1987 – with it not appearing in the animated series, and Brendon Roth and Henry Cavil both wore a plain red cape.
