So here is a super quick trick with Koala to get a semi granular synthesis effect.
¿What is granular synthesis?
Basically is a sound design technic in which a sample or live audio signal is chopped up in multiple tiny fragments or "grains". It is used in several DAWs to create time stretch without changing the pitch (like the Warping in Ableton Live). It sounds like a freeze effect. You can create pads, drones, textures, or even some kind of slice rearrange arpeggio effect.
¿Which are good apps to start experimenting with granular synthesis?
Android:
Grainstorm - Simply outstanding. And it has a free version almost fully functional.
iOS:
Borderlands granular (my favorite)
Quanta (also VST and AU3)
Tardigrain
Grain science
Spacecraft (also VST and AU3)
FRMS (also VST and AU3)
iDensity
iPulsaret
MegaCurtisBig
Sample: Ophelia by André Popp
