Sheer enjoyment, this bravura showpiece was reconstructed and orchestrated by Hershy Kay. Performed with verve and abandon by pianist Reid Nibley, with Maurice Abravanel and the Utah Symphony Orchestra.

Louis Moreau Gottschalk was born in New Orleans in 1829. Early on, he showed musical talent, and studied with Berlioz. He drew from Creole and Negro melodies for his compositions. A pianist, he gave performances internationally. In 1869, while in Brazil, he contracted yellow fever, which was fatal. After his death, over two dozen compositions were discovered--including this 'Grande Tarantelle'.
From the 1973 album 'The World Of Louis Moreau Gottschalk'.
