Gibson's J-45 was introduced in 1942 as their "workhorse" acoustic (the model was so named because it was a $45 jumbo sized flattop). This guitar has gone on to define the acoustic sound in virtually every genre of music since. Lightnin' Hopkins, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Bob Dylan and David Gilmour counted the J-45 among their most used guitars.
The tone is HUGE. Fingerstyle playing is soothing. Aggressive flatpicking is bright and articulate, yet smooth and round. As Jeremy says, it's truly a guitar for every player.
