After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Thousands of buildings from the Soviet period were demolished. Parks and gardens were built on the land reclaimed. Baku is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Caucasus, with hotels in the city earning 7 million euros in 2009. Many sizable world hotel chains have a presence in the city. Baku boasts a vibrant nightlife. Many clubs that are open until dawn can be found throughout the city.
