9. SOUNDBITE (English) Rory Scott, spokesperson for Paddy Power:
"There is no clear favourite yet in the betting. Archbishop Scola is out in front at the moment - he's a two to one favourite - and he is ahead of Cardinal Scherer of Brazil, who is about four to one. And then further down the line you have got archbishop Turkson, Cardinal Turkson, sorry who started off life as a favourite, but he has drifted slightly."
10. People in St. Peter's Square around big screens, which were showing Mass earlier
11. Crowd
12. SOUNDBITE (English) Rory Scott, spokesperson for Paddy Power:
"We have taken a lot of money recently on the Americans. Timothy Dolan has been cut from a hundred to one to 20 to one, on the strength of the amount of money placed on him. That would be a terrible result for us so we are praying he doesn't get in. We have seen a lot of money for Ouellet from Canada. He started off at seven to one, but he is drifting out to about 10 or 12 to one, after revelations in the papers about his brother."

14. Wide shot of big screen
15. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Francesco Fendino, Rome resident:
"Certainly I would not bet. I don't think that's a nice thing. I think one needs to trust instead of betting on such things."
16. Wide shot of people in St. Peter's Square watching screen
17. SOUNDBITE (English) Anna Fsadni, Visitor from Sydney, Australia:

STORYLINE
While cardinals heard a final appeal for unity on Tuesday before sequestering themselves in the Sistine Chapel for the conclave to elect the next Pope, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power is collecting bets on who will be next leader of the Catholic church.
Paddy Power is known for its controversial advertising campaigns and betting markets and this time since Benedict XVI resigned, Papal prognosticators have betted over 500-thousand British pounds (850-thousand US dollars) speculating on who will fill his clothes.
The heavenly figure is set to rocket as the Conclave kicks off with 'Pope betting' firmly on track to become the biggest non-sporting market in Paddy Power's history.
As to the betting, over the past day Archbishop Scola from Italy, now 9/4, has been backed into the favourite spot, while Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana falls behind.
Over recent days Cardinal Odilo Scherer of Brazil has made big strides seeing his odds slashed from 20/1 to 4/1 and now finds himself second favourite.
Cardinal Marc Ouellet from Canada has seen his odds lengthen to 10/1, while bets on North-American cardinals are rising.
"We have taken a lot of money recently on the Americans. Timothy Dolan has been cut from a hundred to one to 20 to one, on the strength of the amount of money placed on him. That would be a terrible result for us so we are praying he doesn't get in," said Rory Scott, a spokesman for Paddy Power.
The second biggest Pope betting market concerns what Papal name Benedict XVI's successor will take.
