With CAR-T, the medical team gathers a patient's T cells, which play a central role in the immune response. They then modify those cells to target lymphoma and leukemia and reinfuse them into the patient. Recently, a CAR-T treatment for leukemia became the first gene therapy approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Here is one UCLA patient's story.
