Commonly referred to as motion sensors, occupancy and vacancy sensors save energy and enhance convenience for both indoor and outdoor applications. The difference between occupancy and vacancy sensors is that occupancy sensors automatically turn on the lights when motion in a room is detected and turn off the lights when a room is empty, while vacancy sensors require the lights to be manually turned on but will automatically turn off the lights when a room is empty. Typical applications that motion sensors are used in are cafeterias, open offices, classrooms, restrooms, and more.
Leviton’s occupancy and vacancy sensors use ultrasonic, passive infrared, or a combined multi-sensing technology to sense a room’s occupancy and vacancy. Vacancy sensors come in wall switch models that can sense at a 180-degree angle. Occupancy sensors come in wall switch, ceiling mount, fixture mount models, and more, that can sense at a 180 degree or 360-degree angle. Leviton occupancy sensors and vacancy sensors can be used to comply with IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, 2016 Title 24, Part 6 occupancy and/or vacancy sensing requirements.
