United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a $245 million contract for the supply of Chinese-origin AR3 MLRS system at IDEX 2023.

At the IDEX 2023 fair held in the United Arab Emirates on February 20-24, the UAE made new purchases in many areas. One of these was the Chinese-made AR3 Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MLRS) system. Chinese manufacturer Norinco signed a contract with the UAE at the IDEX 2023 defense industry fair. The total cost of the signed contract is $245 million.

At the IDEX 2023 defense industry fair held in the UAE, China showed up at IDEX 2023 with the technological products it developed. The main ones are L-15 trainer, AR3 MLRS and Y-20 transport aircraft. Since the start of the fair, especially the UAE has been one of the buyers of Chinese products. With this fair, China gained new markets, especially in the Middle East.

Norinco AR3 MRLS is the Multiple Rocket Launcher System developed by China for export. The system has 2 modular compartments, each of which can hold 5 300 mm Fire Dragon 140 INS/GNSS guided missiles or 4 370 mm Fire Dragon 280 missiles. In addition to artillery rockets, the AR3 is capable of hitting targets at a range of 290 kilometers. It can also carry two 750mm Fire Dragon 480 tactical ballistic missiles with 480 kilogram warheads.

It consists of an AR3 battery, a command center vehicle, a UAV for identifying targets, six launchers and six ammunition supply vehicles. This system is operated by a team of 5 people who prepare the launch vehicle for firing without leaving the cabin. Preparation for launch takes about 5 minutes. The rockets, which can also be launched from a distance, can be operated as batteries, battalions or autonomously.
