The Art Deco Era flourished in the years leading up to World War I. Exuberance, luxury and optimism for the future influenced all areas of design, including women's fashion. At the epicenter was Paris and the women's fashion houses and magazines that were published during this time.
One of the most endearing illustrators was the Frenchman George Barbier, who imbued his subjects with whimsy and situations that left the viewer not only enamored with the clothing, but wondering what was going on in the lives of his models.
