Preparing to say goodbye to someone is not easy. Avera@Home Hospice now offers a new program that offers patients and families a lasting tribute of their loved one’s heartbeat synced to songs or music. In the simplest of terms, a music therapist uses an electronic stethoscope to record a patient’s heartbeat and uses sound mixing software to overlay that with music that reminds them of a family member or of a song that is important to the family.
The Olivier family was the first in Avera’s program to receive this incredibly touching gift. Music therapist Rebecca Jennings-Boyer created three music tributes for Jerry Olivier’s wife, daughter and son. Funding for this recording and editing equipment was made possible through the Avera Foundation.
