The ultimate mix of The Cycle Ends featuring the original by Lena Raine and Kim Sowon, and Danger's Remix, with my own Remix using both original and Danger's.
(Explanation from Andi Roselund on the Pansori and composition by Lena Raine and Kim Sowon): The term pansori is a bit more comprehensive than many understand it, as it covers three broad descriptions: the genre, the performance of the 5 (out of 12) surviving epics, and even the vocal technique itself, also synonymous with the term 창/chang.
What Sowon did on The Cycle Ends is specifically called 구음/gueum (literally, "mouth sound") and is a way that sorikkun vocalize without words, singing in a certain mode. Of course, the yukjabaegi tori mode is the predominant one for the entirety of the genre, and what Sowon came up with when asked if she could sing something "natural as she would" instead of what was on the written page was very much in line with typical "riffs" if you will, of gueum and the pansori repertoire as a whole.
That is, typical melodic figures that are frequently heard in pansori epics, and of course Sowon was able to very naturally adjust as needed to fit the different chords of the track, coming up with gueum with much ease. We probably did 12 or so takes of the 2nd half to the finale, and to be sure, all were fantastic.
To my memory of the score, Lena's track intentionally didn't have lyrics, and rather gueum was the intent in the first place, be it notes as Lena composed (the first half, from what I recall), or Sowon's improvised parts.
