Happy Independence Day! The heat and humidity are here to stay, and more scattered storms will be possible into the weekend. Shower and storm chances will wind down into the evening with temperatures sitting in the mid-80’s for fireworks viewing. Lows will drop into the mid to upper-70’s overnight. Another heat advisory is in place for Friday with heat index values as high as 110°. Scattered storms will be possible mainly in the evening. We jump to a high risk for rip currents tomorrow, and it will stay high through the weekend. This mainly due to Hurricane Beryl kicking up surf in the Gulf of Mexico. Beryl is expected to make landfall Friday on the Northern Yucatan Peninsula. Significant impacts from rain and winds are likely for areas like Cancun and Cozumel. The storm is expected to weaken then enter the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. A weakness in an upper-level ridge currently protecting the Northern Gulf Coast is expected to allow Beryl to curve to the northwest. Model guidance continues to suggest the storm will track towards either the Northern Mexico or South Texas Gulf Coast. The exact path is still in question. Highs will sit in the low- to mid-90’s for the weekend with scattered storms. Higher rain chances will keep temperatures in the low-90’s Monday and Tuesday, but we will be back in the mid-90’s for the middle of next week.
